Face it. Bureaucracy crushes high performers. My 30-year journey to mediocrity in the federal government taught me some keys to survival. I can help your business succeed and your employees survive and thrive by sharing my experiences and highlighting the pitfalls and morale killers embedded in cumbersome processes.

In June 2021, I retired from the FAA after 30 years of air traffic control service, people and system management, aviation safety training, and program development. I served as an air traffic controller, traffic management coordinator, mission operations specialist, operations supervisor, district-level quality control manager, and as a national program development specialist, lead analyst, and management training instructor.
In DC, I was one of the initial seventeen employees creating the Air Traffic Safety Oversight Service (AOV), providing independent oversight for the Air Traffic Organization (ATO), the air-traffic control division of the FAA.
In AOV, I was also part of the initial development and implementation team for the FAA's Safety Management System introducing new concepts on Just Culture, hazard identification, and risk mitigation.
I was part of the small team that created the Air Traffic Safety Action Program, a groundbreaking confidential safety reporting program for air-traffic controllers (the only one of its kind in the world modeled after the highly successful aviation safety action programs airlines have been using for years). I was also an ATSAP development team and training team leader and a member of the first Event Review Committee.
I was a national lead facilitator for the highly regarded Operations Supervisor Workshop, teaching management tools and techniques to first-level supervisors from across the US. And I served as the Central Service Area point-of-contact for the Operations Supervisor Workshop Oversight Group developing OSW curriculum and training new OSW facilitators.
I retired as the Quality Control Manager for the Greater Southwest District in 2021.
More than 30 years of first-hand experience gives me extensive knowledge and understanding of air traffic control events and incidents. It also provides an in-depth understanding of the inefficiencies and attitudes creating waste, low productivity, employee frustration, low morale, and poor performance. A love for public speaking and years of providing management and leadership training give me a solid foundation as a Business and Management Consultant.
I have a gift for expression, and I love public speaking. I have an insider's perspective of the inner workings of the government and bureaucracies, and I enjoy sharing my experiences.

Like Farmers Insurance, I know a thing or two because I've seen a thing or two.
I have experience in air-traffic safety, Safety Management Systems, Just Culture, management training, public speaking and a decent understanding of human nature.
We are all selfish. Understanding our own selfish nature provides us an opportunity to respond better in difficult situations, and the ability to endure the frustrations of needless bureaucracy.
Many popular management books are based on the same premise that every major religion teaches: treat others the way you want to be treated.
Simply applying the Golden Rule to everyday business boosts employee morale and productivity.
Why?
Because the desire to feel welcomed, respected, and appreciated is simple human nature.
Although this isn't a hard concept or complicated subject, it is a difficult task.
I can help your organization navigate these tricky topics.

I want to provide a better understanding of the challenges government and large corporate employees face and how unwieldy bureaucratic kill morale and productivity.
I want to help high performers:
- realize that government and bureaucracy is incapable of serving their best interests
- survive the burnout that comes from carrying the low performers everyday
- develop tools for surviving and thriving in an environment that constantly rewards poor performance and de-incentivizes extra effort
I want to help management:
- identify the strangleholds and frustrations bureaucracy creates for employees
- recognize that bureaucracies are nothing more than an extensive collection of selfish people performing below their capability. Understanding this simple idea provides a better perspective that drives all decision making.
- understand the difference between adaptive challenges and technical problems and why improper responses kill employee morale and productivity
- understand human nature and why we struggle with it in business
